Technical stuff, my equipment and why I am adicted to Canon .....

Although I believe it doesn't really matter, what is between your eye and the object you are trying to bann on film or chip (if a certain level of quality is maintained, though), some people - and I count myself as one of them - are quite interested in technology and gear (did I mention I am an engineer???).

I am focussed on Canon gear. Not because I contribute to much to the discussions like "Nikon versus Canon" - except to annoy a good friend using Nikon. I believe many brands are really good and there is no doubt you can produce perfect pictures with all of them.

The reason for my affection is simple enough: My father had a Canon AE-1, which I also started my trip into SLR photography. I got stuck with it. The SLR bodies and lenses changed, not the brand - it never dissapointed me. In general I try to use as much "Original Canon" equipment as affordable, since I once had serious trouble with OEM lenses on my old EOS50D.

Below you find my current inventory, it is a "living list" as I continously work on improving and extending it.

The most recent extended changes resulted in going to the Canon mirrorless fullframe series with a EOS R, which has been followed by the absoluetly amazing EOS R5 (unfortunately also regarding the price ...).
A good choice I found out - the quality difference between APS-C format and full-frame is relevant, especially regarding available light photography. From the 6D to the EOS R and then again to the R5 were jumps into better image quality and the improved noise performance was clearly noticeable.
Going mirrorless, the most-used 24-105 EF variant was replaced by the RF 24-105, and the lens adapters with adjust ring and polarizer added to adapt the existing EF lenses.

Also on the tele side I did a large investment on the Sigma 60-600 variant of the Sports series replacing the 150-600 - which is not a Canon lens, but affordable with great mechanics and excellent optical characteristics. The 150-600 survived a winter storm at the North Sea drowning it with salt water spray, hail and finally covering it with sand. It survived gracefully proving the manufacturers promises! The newest changes concerning filters: Leaving plastic gradual filters and going for the optical glas ones in a completely different price (and quality) class, including the ND ones and polarizer.

My technical history:
As you will see I'm only using digital SLR gear. Before I switched to the digital world I worked hybrid with film scanner and slide films for many years (EOS6, EOS50E, EOS3).  Back then I preferred films with high color saturation such as Kodak EBX100 or Fujichrome Velvia 50. 

After nearly two years of back and forth regarding digital photography I finally couldn't resist and stepped over to a digital SLR body: First the EOS20D, in the meantime the EOS 30D, the 50D, the EOS7D, the EOS 6D, the first fullframe mirrorless EOS R and finally the step to the EOS R5. With some regret leaving the analogue domain totally, I love the digital world due to it's possibilities regarding direct picture/histogram control and the freedom with a large Flash-card instead of lots of film rolls with associated costs.
